Leo Messi will not take a sign-on fee to join Paris Saint-Germain.
Various French media outlets have reported that the 34-year-old would bag a joining fee of 40 million euros from the French super club.
But MARCA believe that not to be the case, and that Messi won't take anything for signing.
He will however be the highest earner in Paris, taking home 40 million euros net annually.
Indeed that's the highest sum any player has ever earned in Ligue 1, eclipsing even Neymar's wage of 36.8 million euros per year, and Kylian Mbappe's equivalent of 25 million euros per year.
PSG hope to quickly pay off the cost of Messi's salary, particularly given the huge commercial benefits to bringing in the ex-Barcelona star.
Despite all that, Messi will earn a lot less than what he did for the Blaugrana.
According to El Mundo, Messi took home over 555 million euros in his last four years in Catalonia - the biggest wage in the history of sport.
With this deal, Messi will take home 70 million euros net, split between fixed and variable payments - as well as two separate bonuses.
One - worth 115 million euros - would come if he renews his contract, and the second would be a loyalty bonus of 78 million euros.
Messi had been willing to forego 50 percent of his salary to stay at Barcelona, but the club's parlous economic state meant even that drop wasn't enough to meet LaLiga's financial rules.
