Miami sporting director refuses to comment on rumors that club could sign Suarez

Inter Miami CF chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson addressed the links to Luis Suarez as they continue to circulate.

During a press conference on Monday, Henderson refused to comment on the rumored deal given Suarez's contractual situation with Brazilian side Gremio.

'He's currently with Gremio, so we don't wanna comment on a player who's not on our roster,' Henderson said. 'It is another player that's always been linked with our team.'

Despite not wanting to confirm or deny negotiations for the Uruguayan striker, Henderson expressed his excitement as Miami continues to attract some of football's biggest stars.

'It's great to have great players around the world connected with Inter Miami and wanting to come here,' Henderson added.

On November 1, El Pais reported that a deal reuniting Suarez with former FC Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets in Fort Lauderdale could be finalized in December.

Suarez also acknowledged that Miami exchanged emails with his Porto Alegre-based club to discuss a possible one-year deal to bring him stateside.

The speculations escalated further when the Herons released forward Josef Martinez with Suarez scheduled to visit in December.

Dealing with knee complications did not stop Suarez from playing an important role in Gremio this year. Since joining the club, Suarez has scored 21 goals in 40 appearances.

Meanwhile, Messi drew eyes to Miami and MLS after signing a record-breaking deal in July.

Despite missing the MLS Playoffs, Messi led Miami to their first club trophy by winning the inaugural Leagues Cup. The following month, Miami appeared in the US Open Cup final but lost to the Houston Dynamo.

With or without Suarez, fans have high expectations for Messi's first full season with Miami next year.
