Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has lavished praise on Antoine Semenyo for his impressive adaptation at Manchester City, describing the forward’s transition as “absolutely fantastic.”
Richards highlighted Semenyo’s ability to quickly adjust to the demands of Pep Guardiola’s system, stressing that while new signings are often afforded time to settle, the Ghanaian has wasted none.
“He’s just got that true quality,” Richards said. “We always say players need time to adapt at new clubs, but he brings the pace, the power, and football IQ to do what Pep wants. That’s the most important thing.”
Semenyo’s versatility has particularly impressed the former England international. Operating alongside prolific striker Erling Haaland and linking up with new attacking options such as Omar Marmoush, the forward has not only contributed offensively but has also embraced defensive responsibilities.
“When you’re up front with Haaland, then with Marmoush, but also he’s having to drop in defensively to positions which are probably new to him,” Richards noted. “The way he’s adapted is absolutely fantastic. But also delivering as well.”
Despite competing for influence in a star-studded squad featuring the likes of Phil Foden and Tijjani Reijnders, Semenyo has managed to carve out a significant role, underlining his growing importance within the team.
“There’s so many stars in the Man City team – Foden, Reijnders. But to have the impact with so many of them in the team, it shows how good he is,” Richards added.
Questions had lingered over whether Semenyo could replicate his previous form at the highest level, but Richards believes those doubts have now been firmly answered.
