Michael Carrick has now won both of his first two matches in charge of Manchester United after Sunday's thrilling 3-2 comeback win against Arsenal
Michael Carrick was summoned to speak to Sir Jim Ratcliffe mid-interview following Manchester United’s dramatic win over Arsenal. Matheus Cunha scored a stunning late goal as United completed a thrilling 3-2 comeback win at the Emirates to dent Arsenal’s Premier League title bid.
The Gunners took the lead just before the half-hour mark when Lisandro Martinez put the ball through his own net, but Bryan Mbeumo capitalised on a horror backpass by Martin Zubimendi to draw United level before the interval. Patrick Dorgu then fired the Red Devils ahead before Mikel Merino looked to have rescued a valuable point for Mikel Arteta’s side.
However, Cunha’s stunner three minutes from time secured his side all three points. The result means United sit fourth in the table and are well placed in the chase for a Champions League place next term.
Carrick has now won both of his first two matches in charge, and former Premier League forward, now broadcaster, Jan Age Fjortoft has revealed he was summoned to speak to Ratcliffe just before he was due to interview the former England international.
Taking to X, he wrote: "Was standing at my position waiting for our Michal Carrick - interview today. Just as I was ready to ask the first question, a representative from Manchester United stopped my preparations and said: - Michael, Sir Jim wants to see!
“So out he went, having a chat with him in the tunnel, and we got Carrick outside at our table Pitchside, where we could ask him about his “meeting”."
Then, during an interview with Viaplay, Carrick was asked for an insight into the conversation he had with Ratcliffe in the Emirates tunnel. “No, not much as you would expect, I think," he replied. "There’s a lot of happy bodies around the camp today and he’s delighted as well. So it was nice to see him.”
Peter Schmeichel then put the United boss on the spot by asking him if he had asked if he could come into his office today, to which a laughing Carrick replied: “No, not yet, Peter. I think it is nice when you can have that feeling with a big win like this, you know, coming away from home.
“Last week was good for different reasons. This one is pretty special. Two good games – it’s about what’s next now and moving forward.”
Speaking after the win in the capital, Carrick said: "We understood the start of the game was going to be like that, as much as we tried to turn the momentum in our favour.
“I think we understood how the game was going to go and the flow of it. I thought we started to take the ball and connections through the pitch, had that composure and a few moments gaining a bit of confidence as well.”

Before he continued: "We were having a decent spell and seemed to be coming into the game when they scored, which was disappointing. Again, we showed the character to come back and there were stages in the game where you have to defend.
“They make you defend the box really and it's challenging at times, but I thought we had enough in the game to keep believing in the confidence and I always fancied us to score.”
Talk has turned to whether or not Carrick should be considered to take over permanently after his brilliant start but that is an idea Roy Keane, who has previously clashed with the United boss' wife, is dead set against.
When asked for his opinion, Keane said on Sky Sports: "The job? No, you're being silly now," Keane responded to a question from Richards. "You serious? He's had two great performances, but anybody can win two games. It's what he does at the end of the season.
"Even if they do get into fourth, I still wouldn't be convinced he's the man for the job. Absolutely not, I still think they need a bigger and better manager, but he's got the opportunity, what a chance for him and, you know what, he's taken it, so, fair play to him."

I said it before here, I will say it again, Arsenal will not win the league. Pep is a snake, he always finds a way to turn the tide especially toward the end of the season.

Let’s see how he plans to play against teams that sit back and defend, only then will I be convinced.🫡

Kean and Scholes are the most useless pundits who likes criticizing players. They have no solutions to offer to the team. Except Rio Ferdinand who is very passionate to the team and always talks good to the team.

I just hope Man U will not rush to give Michael Carrick the Man U job on the Main Coach/Manager.....that's what happens with some teams when they have new Manager....it was the performance of Ruud Van Nistelrooy then that made Leicester City think they have seen a good Coach but Nistelrooy sent them back to Championship
