Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has claimed that it would be foolish to write off his old club in the race for the Premier League title after their victory over Manchester City on Sunday.
Mohamed Salah scored the only goal of the game in front of the Kop to secure a crucial three points for Liverpool as they look to address their slow start to the campaign. Pep Guardiola's side had thought they had taken the lead through Phil Foden however it was adjudged that Erling Haaland had committed a foul in the build-up.
The defeat left City remaining in second place but they are now four points behind leaders Arsenal. Liverpool meanwhile still have plenty of work to do if they wish to challenge at the top end of the Premier League but they have now managed to cut the gap between themselves and the Blues to ten points.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Owen believes that it would be wrong to rule out a potential title race involving Liverpool at this stage. "Well, I think in the main people are questioning why Liverpool have made a poor start then all of a sudden, they go and beat Manchester City," he explained.
"A team that looked almost unbeatable because they're playing so well. Going into the game, I didn't know many people that were fancying Liverpool for a victory.
"They had injury problems, their form has been a bit in and out whereas Manchester City on the other hand were absolutely at the top of their game. But there's something about Anfield.
"I think the result at the weekend will probably quieten down a few people that were starting to write Liverpool off. Now let's get it right: they've not been consistent so far this season.
"They are a fair way off the top of the league and that's not normal for Liverpool and the way they have been over the last few years. But they're in a really strong position in the Champions League, and they've just beat Manchester City.
"It would be foolish for anybody to think that Liverpool aren't still a huge force in football and won't still be challenging for trophies come the end of the season. I think it's been overplayed even though it's been a disappointing start in the Premier League."
City have the chance to return to winning ways this weekend when they welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to the Etihad Stadium.

every 45 minutes had been divided it into 22 players in the field, once a player miss his 2 minutes there must be weakness to one of the team, and time comes the battery will be charge it accordingly so I hope everyone known how man City game had been finished with Liverpool. and everyone has seen how was cancelo played in that day.

Owen is a football onlooker, not a pundits. There is a 14- point gap between Arsenal and Liverpool. Points not Pounds, it's easier to get pounds. Some mothers get them o.
