Liverpool vice-captain James Milner revealed he does not watch title rivals and former side Manchester City play, claiming it is simply 'a waste of energy.'
The two teams are neck-and-neck going into the final week of the season, with City three points ahead of quadruple-chasing Liverpool - who contest the FA Cup final today against Chelsea - with two games left.
But in an interview with The Athletic, the 36-year-old - who won two titles at the Etihad - insists he never watches Pep Guardiola's team play and spoke in depth about fighting his way into Jurgen Klopp's midfield plans at Anfield.
'I never, ever watch their games,' he says. 'It was the same when I was at City and it was going down to the wire.
'You sit there, so tense, hoping, a waste of energy. I can't do anything about it.'
Speaking about his first season or two under Klopp, he said: 'I had a season at left-back.
'Looking back now, I don't know whether the manager thought I was going to be here or whether he thought I'd be phased out — I was probably at the back of the queue — but I managed to find my way back in.
'You have spells like that at every club, where it's make-or-break. That's a proud time for me because I managed to fight my way back into midfield and I'm still here now.'
Milner has played 22 times in the Premier League this season as the Reds target a second title in three years.
With Fabinho currently injured, Milner could deputise today at Wembley or at Southampton on Tuesday, as Klopp looks to manage his squad for the final few matches of the season.

Why is so difficult to understand Milner. He is saying the obvious if you watch City paying as an opposition it's amount to wasting your time because the way they play against their opponent creat tension in you especially if you want them to lose the game. So there is no need to watch them and I am sure is also applicable to Liverpool. I am City fan but I don't watch Liverpool playing because the result will not go my wishes. This is not because I hate Liverpool but because of tension.
