Luka Modric returned to the scene of one of his favourite childhood memories as Real Madrid travelled to Bergamo to play Atalanta in the Champions League.
Before his four Champions League titles, Golden Ball at the World Cup and Ballon d'Or triumphs, the Croatian's individual prize winning days began in Bergamo.
During a youth tournament in the Italian city in 1997, a 12-year-old Modric was named best player as his Zadar team went on to win the trophy.
"In that edition of 1997, our team played some very good games and finished third," remembered Marco Marchesi to Prima Bergamo.
"We were knocked out in the semi-finals by Modric's Zadar, who went on to win the tournament. Luka played well and it wasn't by chance that he was chosen as best player."
As well as his trophy for best player, Modric was given a backpack by the local football association of Immacolata Alzano and a pair of football boots.
On his return to Bergamo 24 years later, Modric left signed Real Madrid shirt for the football association.
"To my friends of Immacolata Alzano Lombardo for their centenary. In memory of my first individual trophy," Modric wrote on the shirt.

One of the greatest Real Madrid player ever. Also the fact that you don't have to be physically intimidating to be a great Football player.
