Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic has decided to rest Luka Modric for the national team's game against Malta in Rijeka on Tuesday.

The Real Madrid midfielder played the full 90 minutes in both Croatia's 1-0 defeat to Slovenia last Wednesday and their 1-0 victory over Cyprus three days later.

Hence, according to the Croatian publication Index, Dalic will give a rest to Modric for the team's last game in this international break.

The game against Cyprus was Modric's 135 match with the national team, with the 35-year-old midfielder breaking the record of the most-capped Croatia player of all-time.

Modric, who began his international career back in March 2006, has participated in three World Cup and three European Championship competitions.

Croatia currently sit third, behind Russia and Slovenia, in Group H of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
