Salah 'grows frustrated' with Liverpool as his contract offer goes unanswered

Mohamed Salah would be open to accepting a one year contract extension at Liverpool - but is growing frustrated with how the club are handling the situation.

The Egyptian's deal will expire in the summer and the player has been vocal about the lack of talks regarding an offer to keep him at Anfield. Liverpool are yet to detail what their position is regarding their striker, who will turn 33 in the summer.

Following Liverpool's recent win over Southampton, Salah said he was “probably more out than in” and admitted he was “disappointed” that a contract offer had not been made after another impressive start to the season. The forward’s priority is to extend his stay at Anfield and he is not pushing to leave.

A report in L’Equipe linked Salah with a move to PSG, although but the Ligue 1 champions have denied they are in talks. From January 1, Salah is entitled to sign a pre-contract agreement with a club outside England.

The Reds, who sit top of the Premier League, have maintained that discussions with Salah have been positive and are still ongoing. But the Egyptian is frustrated at how long talks are dragging on and, according to The Athletic, is unconvinced that the club will match his expectations.

Salah has stressed his “love” for Liverpool, but believes he is still amongst the best players in the world and the terms of any new deal, despite his age, should reflect that standing, which is likely to be the main stumbling block.

In 2022 he agreed a three-year contract extension that was widely reported to be worth £350,000-a-week in basic salary, making Salah the highest paid player in the club's history. Any new deal is likely to result in a pay cut, which may not be well received by the forward.

Liverpool have a number of big decisions to make before the season comes to a close. Virgil van Dijk, who underlined his importance with another stellar performance in Sunday's win over Manchester City, is another man out of contract in just a matter of months.

The Dutchman has just claimed there is "no update" on his future. Trent Alexander-Arnold too is out of contract in a matter of months and Real Madrid are heavily linked with Real Madrid. The right-back swapped shirts with Jude Bellingham after last week's win over the Spanish giants.
