Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has announced he will leave Anfield at the end of the season and has already hinted at a new career path

Mohamed Salah has suggested he might pursue coaching once his playing days are over. The Liverpool forward has confirmed his departure from Anfield at the conclusion of this campaign.

Salah launched his professional journey with Arab Contractors in Egypt before making the switch to Europe with FC Basel in 2012. His initial spell in England came with Chelsea two years afterwards, though he was loaned out to Italy following a difficult period.

The Egyptian demonstrated his potential with both Fiorentina and subsequently Roma before making his Premier League comeback with the Reds. The remainder is well documented: Salah has netted more than 250 goals for the club and played a crucial role in two league championship victories and a Champions League success.

He will now bid farewell to Anfield following nine trophy-laden years, although it was while at Roma that Salah indicated his career might eventually head in a different direction.

In 2016, following Salah's move to the Italian club on an initial loan arrangement that featured a permanent clause, he participated in a Q&A on social media.

One supporter enquired whether the Egyptian would ever contemplate becoming a coach after his career concludes. He replied: "You never know what can happen tomorrow but it is a possibility."

Salah didn't dismiss the possibility and suggested he might move into coaching following his retirement. Nevertheless, it appears he will finish his playing career at another club after departing Anfield.

In the same Q&A, Salah left the door open to a return to the Egyptian league, though current rumours point towards the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer as likely destinations. Salah said in his exit video: "Hello everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell: I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

"I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life. Liverpool, it's not just a football club. It's a passion. It's a history. It's a spirit.

"I can't explain in words to anyone not part of this club. We celebrated victory. We won the most important trophies. And we fought together through the hardest time in our life.

"I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates, past and present. And to the fans: I don't have enough words.

"The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times. It's something I will never forget, and something I will take with me always.

"Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will always be one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone."
