Morocco star kisses Pepe on head after Portugal ace misses golden opportunity

Achraf Hakimi's match-winning Panenka against Spain was pretty audacious, but we reckon this might have topped it.

Cheeky Moroccan star Jawad El Yamiq added insult to injury in the dying seconds of his side's incredible win over Portugal by kissing Pepe on the head after the defender missed a golden chance to equalise.

The north Africans became the first team on the continent to reach a World Cup semi-final with Youssef En-Nesyri's first-half header proving to be the difference-maker, but it could've been so different had Pep's 97th-minute header found the back of the net.

After leaping above his marker at the back-post, the former Real Madrid defender fired wired, prompting El Yamiq to give him a surreptitious peck on the noggin to thank him.

A minute-and-a-half later the final whistle blew, sending the thousands of Moroccan fans inside the Al Thumama Stadium absolutely wild.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who started on the bench but was brought on five minutes into the second half, burst into tears after leaving the field, with his dream of lifting the World Cup seemingly dead-and-buried.

The 2022 World Cup has been full of twists and turns, but Morocco's remarkable run has been arguably the standout story.

They've now dispatched three tournament favourites in Belgium, Spain and Portugal, and although they're sure to be big underdogs in the semis, as the last few days have demonstrated, write Morocco off at your peril.
