Tensions between Morocco and Senegal have taken a new turn following a social media controversy involving several Moroccan players.
During the international break, Ismael Saibari, Eliesse Ben Seghir, and Oussama Targhalline, along with other teammates, sparked outrage after liking Instagram posts showing Senegalese players celebrating.
The reaction from Moroccan fans was immediate, with strong criticism online and even boos during the Morocco-Paraguay match.
Faced with the backlash, the players quickly issued public apologies. “I want to apologize for what happened… I liked a post without realizing it. It doesn’t diminish my love and dedication to Morocco,” said Saibari. Targhalline also admitted his mistake, stating, “I wasn’t paying attention… I understand the anger and I apologize.” Ben Seghir echoed the same tone, explaining it was an automatic gesture toward someone he knows, adding: “I am first and foremost Moroccan… I deeply love my country and I am proud to represent it.”
The players now hope to move past the incident and regain the trust of their supporters on the pitch.

My respect goes to those Moroccan players, their apology shouldn't erase their good gesture
