Mount: Carrick is my idol; I'm thinking about how to improve next season

This week, Mount participated in a charity event at St. George's Park, serving as the coach of a team composed of young fans with serious illnesses, while Luke Shaw served as an assistant coach. During the event, he was interviewed by the Manchester Evening News and Simon Stone, a well-known British reporter, where he talked about his goals.

Talk about your thoughts on this event.

"I remember the score was 32-2 (laughs). We had been planning this for 18 months, and I came over as soon as the game was over."

You were injured when Carrick took over the team, how did you talk to him?

"It was really difficult at first because I got injured after Carrick came, and I missed a few games, but he was very good to me. He said to me, 'I want you back, you are an important part of the team, and when you are with your teammates, you obviously have a big impact on the team'."

"I know my place in the team. Being able to return to my teammates, being mentally prepared, being able to influence the game and finish it when I go on the field, is very important to me. It feels really good now, and I feel very lucky to play for some experienced and excellent coaches."

"It's really easy to learn things from them. The first person I think of is Tuchel, who is very experienced and has won many important trophies. I learned a lot from him, and of course, Lampard, I played for him at Derby County and Chelsea."

"He was an attacking midfielder, so I learned a lot from him. Now Carrick is here too... As a midfielder, I used to admire him very much. He is definitely the absolute master of midfield. Since I was a child, I have wanted to absorb as much knowledge as possible like a sponge."

How would you rate Carrick?

"He is very calm and composed, and he knows the game very well. He knows what he wants. He analyzes the opponent and then discusses the analysis results with us on the field. As you can see from the sidelines, he is very calm and composed. He has been through it all and has been successful."

"He knows what it feels like to be a player, and it is this calm confidence that gives him strength. I think everyone is responding well to this. Obviously, I knew Steve Holland before, and Jonathan Woodgate is with Carrick too."

"They are all people with rich experience in this industry. Jonathan has played for high-level teams, Evans is also among them, and Steve has won the Champions League and has also played for many big teams. There are many experienced players in the team now."

When you were in Chelsea's youth training, Steve Holland was also there, and later you worked together in the England team. Were you happy when you saw him come to Manchester United?

"Of course, I haven't seen him for a while. He knows a lot about football, has extremely high football intelligence and rich experience, and brings that calm confidence. If he sees something, he knows what to say, and he dares to speak his mind."

"In training, I remember, maybe it was the first or second game they took over, he gave a speech in training or before the game, talking about the game tomorrow. He said: 'Look, we will win - we will win this game'."

"He has been full of confidence from day one. There are probably not many people in the world of football who have such a resume and experience as him? He is a special person. In the football world, he is a bit low-key, maybe a bit inconspicuous."

"He is not the person who stands in the spotlight, but he has a very keen tactical mind and knows very clearly what he wants to see. He always gives the coach some advice on positioning, or if he finds that a player needs to be substituted, he will also suggest it."

"In the last game, I was on the bench. Carrick came back and talked to Holland and listened to his opinions. They kept communicating, which is very important."

You have been at Manchester United for almost three years, but fans generally believe that you have not played at your best.

"I think that's reasonable. Injuries and setbacks have kept me from finding my rhythm. Now I'm in good shape and can start again. I know the season is coming to an end, but it's great to be back in the team. After the season, I'll immediately focus on the next season, thinking about how I can improve in the new season and really become a part of the team."

Before your injury in December, you were the most consistent player in Manchester United, scoring key goals against Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Wolves.

"Looking back on this season, yes, I have been injured and missed games, but not as many as last season or my first season. This is definitely a step in the right direction."

"Of course, as a player, first of all I want to be able to play. If I can't play, or if that opportunity is taken away, it's really hard to accept. Being able to come back with my teammates and being able to play is really great."

"Because I have experienced the feeling of being stuck on the sidelines before, unable to participate in the game, or only being able to watch the game in the stands, this makes me cherish the feeling of returning to the game even more."

"The boys are playing very well. Obviously, after defeating Brentford, we are now in a very favorable position to continue to move forward and qualify for the Champions League again. So, yes, it's really exciting now."

You won the Champions League in 2021. Now Manchester United has a chance to return to the Champions League.

"As a player, you crave that expectation, crave that pressure to prove yourself. Obviously, we don't have many games this season, but next season is our focus - if we can qualify for the Champions League, hopefully we can do it."

"We will do well in the league again, and in the Champions League as well, because we can really do well. Manchester United deserves the Champions League, they must participate in the Champions League, and the fans deserve the Champions League too, they should see the Champions League games. Hopefully we can have those exciting nights again."

Do you think Manchester United has the ability to compete for the championship?

"I think we have the strength. My goal is to win the Premier League. Of course, I have already won the Champions League, but can we do it? Yes, I think we can do it as a team. We must have that mentality."

"It may seem a bit far away, but you must have that mentality to truly keep improving as a team. We have proven our strength to those strong teams, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, you know."

"We have proven this this season, so we can definitely do it. The question now is to prove it on a bigger stage - the Champions League - and to maintain a more stable performance in the Premier League. Hopefully we can play an important role in this regard next season. Yes, that's my goal: I want to win the Premier League."

After participating in European competitions next season, Manchester United's number of games will increase. Are you looking forward to getting a starting position?

"I will always believe in myself. I know myself and I know what I can bring to the team. I am older and more experienced now. As you said, this is my third season, time flies so fast. I love football."

"I love being a part of this huge club and really moving forward with this club, getting better and better, and returning it to its peak, because that is where this club should be."

"It's so special to be a part of it. I won the FA Cup with the club before, and that feeling was incredible. That feeling was great, but if I could win the Premier League title... I can't even imagine how special that would be."

Would you like Carrick to be the official coach of Manchester United?

"It's not up to me to decide, I don't know what will happen. But personally, in my opinion, he is very good. I have talked to him and I really like his way of working, his understanding of the game and his view of the game."

"We'll wait and see, but I think judging by the way we play and perform since he took office, I think you can see where we are now, we are going all out."

"Looking back on this season, there have been several games where if we had won, the ranking would have been higher. So, yes, we have experienced some ups and downs, but I think we have shown the team's resilience and perseverance, even in some key games, we were a bit careless at one point."
