Anthony Martial has been fined for going AWOL from Manchester United's tour of the US to be at the birth of his baby son, Jose Mourinho has confirmed.
Martial upset the United manager by leaving the team base in LA last month against his wishes and flying to Paris to be with his partner Melanie Da Cruz.
The unsettled French winger angered Mourinho further by refusing to return to America after the birth of baby Swan.
It is understood that Martial has been fined £180,000, the equivalent of two weeks' wages.
The Portuguese coach revealed Martial's punishment when responding to comments from Paul Pogba that he would be fined if he discussed his situation at Old Trafford.
'I don't care,' said Mourinho. 'You have to ask Paul. I'm here for two years and a couple of months, and the only player that was fined was Anthony Martial. So it's not easy to be fined here.'
Mourinho had called for Martial to return to LA, saying: ‘He has the baby and after the baby is born – beautiful baby, full of health, thank God – he should be here and he is not here.’
But having made it clear to friends that he had no intention of coming back, Martial insisted that family comes first and hinted there had been problems with the birth.
He tweeted: ‘Thank you all for your posts. My little Swan is fine, for the mom it was harder but thanks to God she's better now. Sorry but my family will always come first.’
Mourinho was open to selling Martial in this transfer window, and the 22-year-old is keen to leave, but it appears as though he will be staying until January at least.

You guys getting this wrong, he was allowed to go see his new born, but he failed to return on time, the same money he's using to support he and his family is from the club/employer, and he's a employee working for the club, remember if you don't come to work on time, your company/office can cut your salary and this is normal, when you work overtime, your employer can pay you extra salary which is bonus, but if you are given holiday/day off and you overstayed, you will be fine or your salary cut, wake up guys, are you guys not employ?

There is no question the he has been a successful manager, but ultimately he winds up shooting himself in the foot because of his leadership style, which is largely driven by his ego. He had the talent at Chelsea to repeat with the squad he had, yet he alienated his players. He has a terrific squad at Man U. The trick for him will be to get these young men to play to their highest level...this is hard to do if you’re constantly talking bad about your players in the media There is an old saying, “you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar”

My comment was about leadership...not the military (this is where I learned the truth about leadership while in the service to my country) Obviously the soldier is under very different obligations to duty than a soccer player But my friend the same rules and dynamics of leadership apply to both. I am glad with your reply. It makes more sense to argue with objective people like you. I am sorry if I sounded harsh, I was only trying to speak against the hatred the media have attracted to JM. Simply speaking, JM has his style of football which he has won trophies with but people brandishing as being useless is what makes me sad about the thought of people. Whatever they think Jose has done, Guadiola has done if not more. Guadiola ditched Eto, Ronaldinho, Deco, Toure etc. in their prime, nobody said anything, they all say it is football management. But when Jose does anything, it is never normal. When Conte packed the bus against Barcelona, the press and fans hailed him as being a tactical coach but when Mourinho defends against anything, they say it is pack the bus. This is really unfair.

pls, get is straight, Martial was not fined becos he went to attend to his new baby as he was permitted by the coach. he was fined becos he didn't come back on the first time and he didn't update the club on his latest. now to everyone, assume you have a worker working for you and has sought your permission to be absent at work for some days. after the first days, he has failed to show up, neither has he given you any updates. then he comes back on the day he chose himself meanwhile while he was away he was supposed to attend to some work at the workplace. Now that he has come late with no genuine excuses other than he felt like his family should come first before anything. guys, drop double standard. none of you can take that shit from any of your workers at your workplace. you all know that. in your case, many of you will send the guy away on suspension or probably sack him. so, blaming JM is like showing the hatred you have for this man believing everything he touches is bad. come to think of it, if everything he touches is bad he wouldn't have won over 20 trophies. the media has made every fool to hate JM passionately.

he wasn't fined for going to witness the birth of his child. for that he was granted permission but he overstayed his permission without dully informing the board and manager. that is wrong in any institution, at least he should have informed them he needed to stay longer. don't go to work without permission and see if your boss will take it lightly

Your right,as ye said he was aloud to be at the birth etc,and the money players are on these days they should be back with the team when they are sapose to,i dont like united but your right,when u think of how unhappy jose is with hardly any new players coming in and best part of the starting 11 recovering from the world cup,and then ones that are already their not even bothering to turn up for preseasion.He should be made play and train for the reserves for a month.He,l think twice about doing it again.
