Jose Mourinho could help Manchester United land No 1 target Mauricio Pochettino – by making a shock return to Real Madrid.
United have put Tottenham boss Poch at the top of their wish-list after axing Mourinho in the aftermath of the 3-1 Premier League surrender at Liverpool.
The Argentine is also being tracked by European champions Madrid after a miserable start to the season which has already seen them replace Julen Lopetegui with Santiago Solari.
But Real president Florentino Perez remains a big admirer of Mourinho after the 55-year-old spent three years in charge at the Bernabeu.
Perez is planning a huge clear-out at the club in the summer after seeing the team lose five of their opening 16 La Liga games to lose touch with pacesetters Barcelona.
And while it would cost £40million in compensation to prise Pochettino away from Spurs, Mourinho is a proven gun for hire who is now on the market.
The 55-year-old Portuguese is also being touted for a possible return to Inter Milan after winning two serie A titles, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League during two seasons in Italy before leaving for Madrid in 2010.
And there have also been shock suggestions in Germany that Bayern Munich are also eyeing him with coach Niko Kovac struggling in his first season.

I think Old age is catching up with Perez that he can't think Clearly 4 the good of Madrid anymore. Left 4 me i would say Real M. shuld stick Solari 4 the mean time. Any top club that currently thinks of highering Mourinho has no actual plan 4 themselves.

He couldn't but he won't. Mourinho is not returning to Real Madrid, Pochettino is not swapping Spurs for Manchester United. If he leaves Spurs the only destination I can see is Real Madrid since that's match made in heaven considering style of play.
