Jose Mourinho revealed he received 50 messages from former colleagues at Manchester United after being handed the reins at Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs were quick to appoint the former United boss to replace Mauricio Pochettino, who was sacked after five and a half years in charge.

Mourinho will face his former club and his own successor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, when United host Tottenham on December 4.

And the Portuguese, three times a winner of the Premier League in two spells at Chelsea, speaking at his first press conference as Tottenham manager, revealed the contact from staff at Old Trafford.

"Yesterday I received 50 message from United, the players, staff, the board and that means the world," he said.

"That is about the respect people have for you."

Mourinho also spoke about the prospect of coming up against his former clubs in the Premier League, Chelsea and United.

He said: "If I play against one of my former teams, I have only one shirt and one passion and that is my club and now it's Spurs."

As well as giving a hint about not repeating the mistakes he made at United, Mourinho then insisted he was "humble" and wanted to "analyse his career" before heading back into management.
