Mourinho reveals new Benfica contract offer amid Real Madrid links

Jose Mourinho says he has received an offer to renew his Benfica contract amid rife speculation that he could return to Real Madrid.

Mourinho has been heavily linked with a return to the Bernabeu, with the pressure mounting on current Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa, who has failed to win a trophy with Los Blancos this term after replacing Xabi Alonso at the helm.

The Portuguese head coach was in charge at Madrid between May 2010 and June 2013, winning LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de Espana during his tenure.

He won 87 of his 114 LaLiga games in charge of Madrid (D16 L11), averaging 2.4 points per game while his side scored 326 times across those matches.

Mourinho only returned to Benfica in September last year, signing a two-year deal, and he has led them through an unbeaten Primeira Liga campaign (W22 D11), with one game left to play.

While the 63-year-old attempted to avoid commenting on the links to Madrid, he confirmed there was a contract offer on the table from Benfica, though he insists his focus remains on their match against Estoril on Saturday.

"On Wednesday, I received an offer from Benfica to extend my contract," Mourinho said.

"They gave it to my agent, but I didn't want to see it, know it or analyse it. I will do that only on Sunday.

"Interest from Real Madrid? No, my agent met with Benfica and said, 'I have an official offer that I will send you'.

"And I said: 'I don't want it, send it to me on Sunday'. As for Real Madrid, they never said anything to me, but I would have given them the same answer. I will start thinking about it on Sunday."
