The former Blues boss had plenty of praise for Frank Lampard but the new manager is still without a win at home since rejoining the club
Jose Mourinho was concerned to see Chelsea’s fans applaud their team from the pitch after a second defeat at Stamford Bridge in six days.
But former manager Mourinho, whose old Chelsea side was renowned for being near-invincible at home, thinks such a reaction can spell the beginning of the end for a club at the top.
“I hope they don’t get used to it,” Mourinho said of the defeat on Sky Sports .
“That’s a very important thing, because when you start accepting defeats just because your team played well and just because your players gave their best, a performance for people to be proud of… I think when you get used to it, that’s when the big clubs stop being big clubs.
“So I don’t think they should get used to it. But I think it shows that the people are ready for what the season is going to be for them.
“They are ready to support one of the best professionals that I have ever worked with, a manager with potential.”
After seeing a Cesar Azpilicueta goal ruled out for offside, Chelsea went into half-time 2-0 down to goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino.
An improved performance in the second half saw N’Golo Kante pull a goal back, while Mason Mount and Michy Batshuayi missed good opportunities to level the score late on.
Mourinho says he likes what Lampard is trying to do at Stamford Bridge, but had a note of caution ahead of what he sees as a difficult season.
“You look today at the performance and the result and the reality of the numbers is that Liverpool are 10 points ahead of Chelsea,” he said.
“So let’s make it clear and objective: Chelsea are not going to fight for the title. So let’s support what looks like is their philosophy, which is to give time to the players and to the manager.
“I like their idea of play. I think the style of play that they are trying to play is clearly adapted to what football is nowadays and is adapted to the players they have.
“But in this moment I think they are too far [behind] to compete for the title, so even when the transfer window opens for Chelsea it’s not going to be with one or two players that they will become a force to fight for the title.”

This season is a just a preperation for the next one! So we chelsea fans should relax! We have a ban, we lost Hazard! and even with this kids we are doing well.. I don't believe that united and arsenal are better then us! Even with this kids we are capable to finish top 4! Even if we finish top 6 in my opinion Lampard deserves another season! Look at liverpool they built a team season after season! We just need good defence!

Lampard is the best man for this job all he need is time. Liverpool that is one of the best team in the world today, gone through a process, check how many seasons it took the manager to build that team to this extent. don't forget we were band not to sign players this reason and also some players move on yet we are playing to this extent. I have so much believe and respect for legend lampard. the ugly football style Mourinho was playing also failed him, he wasn't getting the results before he gets sacked from the both clubs, so he should just keep quiet and allow the young managers to do their job, shameless man. we cfc fan love lampard.

I agree and disagree with Jose. I see what he is saying cos of course we shouldnt get used to losing but at the same time we have to accept we arent at the level of some clubs, notably names like Man City, Liverpool, PSG, Barca, Madrid, Napoli, Bayern, Juve and more. We are still building and still have key personel out of the side such as Odoi, Loftus Cheek, Rudiger etc. to still come into the side. Chelsea fans have a lot to look forward to precisely cos we know the team will only get better. If this was last seasons squad under Sarri without Hazard I'd give up cos I'd know results and performances week in week out but under Frank everyone has a chance to impress and every once in a while we get certain players impressing a lot such as Tomori these last few games who established 1 of the 2 centre back spite as his own or Tammy and Mason scoring a combined 10 goals between them out of 13. With Odoi and James being integrated into the side with Loftus and Rudiger pretty much already established starters, we will only get better and it will eventually force healthy competition, already we got players performing really well, some even freezing out a 50 mil player like Pulisic, of course he also will improve wanting to get into the side, Chelsea is starting to show the improvement we have wanted to see for years so I dont want to see anyone only caring about results in the short term and think long term, this squad could win things if developed the right way....
