Moyes: Grealish injury a 'big blow' for Everton

Everton boss David Moyes conceded that a stress foot fracture sustained by on-loan midfielder Jack Grealish is a "huge blow" to the rest of the Toffees' season.

Grealish suffered the injury during Everton's 1-0 win over former club Aston Villa in the Premier League, a result that moved them up to 10th in the top flight.

The 30-year-old has made 22 appearances in all competitions for Everton, scoring two goals and providing six assists, the latter being a team-high tally for the club.

He has also created more chances (38) than any other player in Moyes' ranks in the Premier League, with the Everton boss unsure about what the future holds for Grealish.

"It's not for me to give the timescale, we've not got it yet from the doctors. It's a stress fracture in his foot. That's all I can say," Moyes told reporters.

"It's a huge blow, he's played an important part for us since the start of the season. We've had a few injuries, but this is a big blow to us.

"We're in close contact with Manchester City. We'll see how that works as we go along, and as we get more information from the specialist.

"We're upset for Jack. We're not thinking about [his future]."

The news for Everton comes before they welcome Leeds United to Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday, with Daniel Farke's side in fine form of late.

Leeds are 16th in the Premier League but have put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone, with the gap eight points to West Ham in the bottom three.

Lukas Nmecha's late winner clinched a 1-0 win over Fulham at Elland Road last time out, improving their chances of survival, at least according to the Opta supercomputer.

Farke's men only finished the 2025-26 campaign inside the bottom three in 6.1% of its season simulations, with the Leeds boss confident they are in a good position at this moment.

And having built a gap between themselves and the Premier League relegation zone, Farke is confident Leeds are in a good position to confirm their top-flight status.

"It will be a very difficult task for us," Farke said. "As the manager of Leeds United, I don't like to praise the other clubs that much, but it is, of course, a club of huge potential.

"They have quality players, very ambitious signings, and a new stadium. David Moyes is doing a fantastic job. His teams always have a really good team spirit, togetherness.

"We have proven that we can beat any side in this league. Each and every good result makes our belief stronger. We are on a good path, already on 25 points.

"Nothing is achieved yet, but we have a chance to definitely achieve our goals this season and stay in this league. All our focus is on earning the right to stay in this league."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Everton – James Garner

Only three players have won possession more often in the Premier League this season than Everton's James Garner (114).

His total of 14 last time out against Aston Villa was the most by a Toffees player in a game since March 2024 (Amadou Onana vs West Ham, also 14).

He is one of five English players in the Premier League this season to have made 20+ tackles, completed 20+ interceptions and created 20+ chances.

Leeds United – Lukas Nmecha

Nmecha – who netted the winner against Everton earlier this season – is averaging a goal every 122 minutes in the top flight this season, the fourth-best ratio among players with 500+ minutes.

The two Whites players to score home and away against the Toffees in a Premier League season are Michael Bridges in 1999-00 and Raphinha in 2020-21.
