Bayern Munich had to settle for a point at home to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon, three days before their crucial Champions League last-16 second leg against Red Bull Salzburg.

Niklas Sule gave Bayern the lead in the 18th minute, but Thomas Muller converted past his own goalkeeper to level the scores.

"Before the match we said amongst ourselves that we'd take something from this today. We struggled in the opening 15 minutes, but the goal after the free-kick gave us a lot of energy," Leverkusen midfielder Kerem Demirbay said afterwards.

This result leaves Bayern nine points ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund, who have a game in hand. Leverkusen, meanwhile, remain in third.
