Nabil Fekir has emerged as a late transfer window target for Chelsea.

The World Cup winner looked set to join Liverpool earlier in the summer, but saw a move to Anfield fall through.

The Reds interest in the Lyon playmaker continues, but a deal has looked increasingly unlikely in recent weeks after talks between all parties fell through.

Now the 25-year-old has returned to training with OL after his post-World Cup holiday.

And while he has stated that he is happy to remain at the club, he made it clear that he will evaluate any approaches in the coming days and weeks.

Speaking on Monday, Fekir said: “As you can see, I am in Lyon. I am very happy here.

"But the transfer window is still long and everything goes very quickly in football. We don’t know what will happen in the future but I am very happy at Lyon.

"I feel brilliant in this squad. We have very good players, a great atmosphere. It is a bit like the French national team: a mixture of youngster and older players, with some players more experienced than others.

"We have a good group. We feel good together and I hope that Lyon will have a very good season.”

However, he could be tested with Maurizio Sarri eyeing a potential move in the summer window’s dying days, according to France Football.

Chelsea’s new manager has only brought in £52million midfielder Jorginho and backup keeper Rob Green since his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri is expected to be backed in the coming days, after Sunday’s Community Shield defeat to Manchester City shed further light on the gap between Pep Guardiola’s men and the 2017 title winners.

The Italian is looking to impose his own style on the side, which has seen the Blues move to a 4-3-3 formation and look to adopt a more technical approach and Fekir has emerged as a major target.

Jorginho and N’Golo Kante’s places in midfield are assured, but the identity of who plays alongside them is wide open; Ross Barkley has been the preferred choice in the most advanced central midfield role in pre-season, but has made little impact at Stamford Bridge since joining from Everton in January.

Fekir has had a number of scouts from across Europe check up on him during the last year. He scored 23 times for Lyon in 39 matches last season, leading them into the Champions League and would be considered an upgrade.

However, while Lyon chief Jean-Michel Aulas is open, still, to letting him leave this summer, the French club will want a fee in excess of £50million.

If the Blues make a play for the left-footed schemer, then Liverpool, having spent £170million this term already, would have a decision to make over whether to resurrect a move.
