Napoli has officially appointed Massimiliano Allegri as their new head coach ahead of the new season.

Conte is now among the leading candidates to take charge of the Italian national team, a role he previously held from 2014 to 2016, as he departs the Italian giants for good.

Napoli wasted no time in replacing Conte as they announced him as their new head coach on Friday morning. The club released a statement confirming the news in what is an exciting appointment.

“SSC Napoli would like to welcome Massimiliano Allegri as our new first team head coach. Allegri has signed a contract with the club until 30 June 2029.

“A big welcome to our new head coach Max Allegri!”

According to reports in Italy, Allegri agreed to part ways with AC Milan without a severance package, asking only to be paid the final month of salary for himself and his staff.

This followed Milan finishing in fifth place on the final day of the season after the club won only two of its final eight matches in what was a dire end to the campaign.

Allegri was fired along with director of sport Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and CEO Giorgio Furlani as part of a major clear-out at the San Siro.

He will hope for a better time at Napoli, a side who failed to impress last season due to injuries and how ruthless Inter Milan were in the Serie A as they claimed top spot.
