Napoli reportedly turned down an offer worth €103m for defender Kalidou Koulibaly from Manchester United, frustrating Jose Mourinho.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, the proposal was received and immediately rejected by President Aurelio De Laurentiis in recent days.
It translates to roughly £91.4m for the Senegal international centre-back, who is on the five-man shortlist for the BBC African Player of the Year Award.
Mourinho raged on Friday that he was no longer able to purchase top players due to rising transfer fees and may well have been referring to the failed swoop for Koulibaly.
“You have no chance in the market unless you go to crazy numbers, or instead you go to what you call the second level players and still have crazy numbers.
“But that second level is the level people say, and I agree, that’s not what Manchester United is.”

Man U need a defender for sure. And Koulibaly is a complete package. He has it all.He undoubtedly deserves such an ammount. But this is just enough. No team shouldn t go over a 100 mil for a defender.Actually no positional player untill not that legendary doesn t deserve anything over a 100 mil.Well,I see money now only favouring Man City. Therefore money can t buy anything for Jose

koulibally should rather remain at Napoli or join another club rather than join Man United, now mourinho remains their coach or else Mourinho will transform him to a midfielder which basically will kill his career.

Good. Stop spending the luxurious money to buy the players. Expensive player doesn’t mean they can do magic to the team. And not all the players enticed with big money. This season how many players already rejected United offer? I think is better they bring a non-high profile player but talented. Example Fred, he is a good transfer this season by far. He play very well but I just don’t understand why Jose doesn’t like to start him. I believe there are many young talented players out there it’s just the matter of doing a good scouting. come on, we can’t keep on spending big money just for one player!
