Napoli ace Kevin de Bruyne's recovery from hamstring surgery will be broken up into seven parts.

De Bruyne underwent an operation this week after suffering the setback in defeating Inter Milan on the weekend. He is expected to be missing for 4-5 months.

The Napoli midfielder underwent successful surgery by Geert Declercq and is now beginning a complex recovery and rehabilitation program, supervised by physiotherapist Lieven Maesschaelck, as reported by DHL.

The recovery process is divided into seven phases, with a very cautious start. For the first four to six weeks, De Bruyne will have to limit his movements as much as possible, walking with crutches.

The first sessions will focus on managing pain, swelling, and inflammation, with mainly isometric exercises (in a static position) to stimulate the operated muscle without damaging the suture.

As Benjamin Tubiermont, a physiotherapist for several Belgium players, explains, only after this initial period will the player be able to resume walking and begin to stimulate the balance between agonist and antagonist muscles. Subsequently, De Bruyne will be able to put his running shoes back on to gradually resume running and, finally, enter the crucial re-athleticization phase.

Here, under  the guidance of his athletic trainer, he will need to regain his speed and the ability to sprint at high intensity, aiming for 90-95% of his maximum speed to prevent relapses.

The final step will take place in Naples, with final on-field rehabilitation and gradual reintegration into the team, avoiding contact. The Belgian medical team will remain in close contact with the Azzurri staff to monitor the return to the field of play of one of the world's best midfielders, expected at the start of spring.
