Mediapart and L’Équipe report that PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s apartment in Paris was raided today by law enforcement who are currently investigating claims made by lobbyist Tayeb Benabderrahmane, who claims to have been held hostage in Qatar in 2020.
Al-Khelaifi, whose personal schedule ensured that the unveiling press conference of ex-Spain manager Luis Enrique as the new Head Coach of PSG occurred 3 hours later than initially planned, was also stopped by an examining magistrate when he got off his private jet which arrived in Bourget, as part of the same investigation. The examining judge presented Al-Khelaifi with a document that he requested that the Qatari signed in order for his investigators to be able to search NAK’s apartment without his being present. A stipulation required under French law.
PSG’s entourage have sought to play down the seriousness of today’s events when speaking with L’Équipe:
“He knew that the judge was going to be there and it took 5 minutes, it has nothing to do with why he was late which was due to his plane being late which was the case owing to a family problem.”
According to Benabderrahmane’s complaint, filed by his lawyers, he was imprisoned in January 2020 in Qatar, where he endured “immense torture.” The French-Algerian businessman claimed that he was later placed under house arrest before being allowed to leave the country in November 2020.
Benabderrahmane affirms that he was allowed to leave only after he signed a confidentiality agreement, pledging to not release “sensitive” documents relating to Al-Khelaifi.
