Nemanja Matic tells Manchester United fans 'we're doing our BEST' despite record low points total

Nemanja Matic has urged Manchester United fans to keep supporting the team despite record underperformance on the pitch.

Assuming they beat Crystal Palace on the final day of the Premier League season, the Red Devils will secure a total of just 61 points - three less than their previous lowest total of 64 in 2013-14.

But Matic insisted the players are 'doing their best' and admitted success is a long way down the road for United.

He said: 'We've had a couple of difficult seasons but I just want the fans to know, at the training ground, we're doing our best. United will come back, for sure. It's going to take some time but United will be back. Keep supporting the team. Stay together.

'I think the fans recognise what I'm doing on the pitch. Also, off the pitch, I try to be an example... I know what this badge means to our supporters, so you need to be an example not only on the pitch.

'United has some fantastic people that are working for the club. They are behind the cameras but they are very important for the team. They really like the club and that's good.

'I'm really happy that I had the opportunity to work with them and, for sure, they will be my friends forever.'

The Serbian midfielder, 33, is set to leave Old Trafford as a free agent at the end of his contract this summer.

He has made 189 appearances in all competitions for the club since joining from Chelsea for £40million in July 2017, scoring four goals.
