Match Report
Inter Miami defeated the New England Revolution 2-1 in their visit to Gillette Stadium for another MLS match . Lionel Messi was the star of the match, scoring both goals in the first half, allowing Javier Mascherano 's team to climb the Eastern Conference standings.
The match started with intensity and dynamism, and the result only reflected the good connection between Messi and his teammates , especially Sergio Busquets, and Inter Miami's ability to capitalize on their opponents' mistakes.
The Argentine captain opened the scoring in the 28th minute after taking advantage of a gift from the home defense following a poor clearance by Tanner Beason. The play took place inside the box, and the Argentine finished with a first-time finish to make it 1-0 .
Just nine minutes later, Messi himself extended the lead after receiving an excellent through ball from Sergio Busquets and finishing expertly past the opposing goalkeeper, scoring his second goal of the night.
As he did in the last meeting between the two clubs, La Pulga scored two goals against the New England Revolution again. He now has 14 goals this season, with eight assists, in 15 matches , and has accumulated 870 goals in his career . As for this opponent, the Rosario native is doing very well facing them, as he has scored seven goals in less than three matches .
During the first half, Luis Suárez, Jordi Alba, and Baltasar Rodríguez all created dangerous chances for Inter Miami, while Langoni and Campana, the former Las Garzas striker, also added to the mix with shots from distance for the New England Revolution. However, they were met with a strong comeback from Argentine goalkeeper Oscar Ustari.
Despite the home team's response, Inter Miami managed the lead with midfield control and defensive solidity. Messi had another chance to score with a left-footed shot that went wide of the home side's goal , while the team continued to generate chances to extend their lead.
In the second half, Javier Mascherano's team took care of the result, although they relied too heavily on their goalkeeper Ustari , who was the other star of the match with key saves. Messi had a chance to convert his hat trick after a run inside the box, but was intercepted.
With this victory, Inter Miami earned three valuable points to continue their fight for the top spot in the MLS Eastern Conference. Las Garzas currently sit in fifth place with 35 points , seven points behind leader FC Cincinnati, although Mascherano's team has two games in hand.

Q: Is Messi still performing at the same level as 10 years ago? Mascherano 🗣: “Yes, absolutely. Leo is the best player in the history of this sport. It’s incredible how he still delivers performances we thought we’d never see again. We’re lucky to have him.” 🐐 Q: How hard is it to stop Messi & Busquets? Mascherano 🗣: “They don’t even need to speak — they’ve played together so long they just know. Busquets knew exactly where and when Leo wanted the ball, like on that second goal. It helps us so much, especially in a tough match like today.” Q: Messi playing the full 90? Mascherano 🗣: “We actually planned to rest him, but once New England scored, we felt it was safer to keep him on. Not ideal, but necessary.”
