Rennes have confirmed that defender Jeremy Jacquet will undergo surgery on a shoulder injury before joining Premier League champions Liverpool in the summer.
Jacquet completed his reported £60m (€69.5m) switch to Arne Slot's side at the beginning of February, only to sustain the issue six days later in a 3-1 defeat to Lens.
His injury was described as "quite serious" by former Rennes boss Habib Beye, and that proved to be the case, with Jacquet likely to be ruled out for the rest of the season.
The 20-year-old played 31 times for Rennes in all competitions, and has made 18 Ligue 1 appearances in 2025-26, helping them to sixth in the French top-flight.
"On February 7, defender Jeremy Jacquet left prematurely, with an injury in his left shoulder," Rennes said in a statement on Tuesday.
"Following the examinations carried out, a surgical intervention is scheduled in the coming days. Stade Rennais F.C. wishes him a speedy recovery."
The Reds are hopeful that the highly-rated centre-back will be fit and available for the start of their pre-season preparations for the new campaign.
Liverpool pipped Chelsea to the signature of Jacquet, who has won five caps for France's Under-21s.
