Liverpool twice let leads slip and lost Mohamed Salah to injury before Divock Origi came to the rescue at St James' Park.
Match Report
Liverpool's Premier League title challenge remains alive after Divock Origi scored an 86th-minute winner in a dramatic 3-2 victory at Newcastle United on Saturday.
Origi got a decisive touch to fellow substitute Xherdan Shaqiri's corner to lift Jurgen Klopp's side off the canvas and back two points ahead of Manchester City, who visit Leicester City on Monday before the season comes to an end next Sunday.
The Reds' dreams appeared to have slipped away after Salomon Rondon fired in Newcastle's second equaliser in the 54th minute, which preceded a concerning head injury that forced Mohamed Salah off on a stretcher.
Virgil van Dijk and star man Salah had earlier scored either side of Christian Atsu's close-range strike, but it was Origi who provided the match-winning moment in a see-sawing contest.
The title race will go to the last day...

13' GOAL! Newcastle 0-1 Liverpool (Van Dijk)
VAN DIJK HEADS LIVERPOOL IN FRONT!!! 1-0!!! The Reds take the lead through a emphatic header from Van Dijk.
Alexander-Arnold whips the ball into the box with pace from the corner. A slip by Lascelles allows Van Dijk a free run at the ball and he makes no mistake thumping his header past Dubravka from close range.
20' GOAL! Newcastle 1-1 Liverpool (Atsu)
Atsu plants the ball home for Newcastle after a scramble in the box. Manquillo is afforded spaced and time down the right flank and he digs out a threatening cross.
Ritchie connects, but scuffs his drive at goal. Rondon is the next to shoot, only to be denied by Alexander-Arnold on the line - perhaps with an arm.
The referee waves play on and Atsu takes on the next strike, firing his effort into the back of the net. Game on.
26' WOODWORK! Perez almost scores
Perez is denied by the woodwork. Rondon works the ball into the path of Perez in the box and the forward takes the ball on the half-volley, only to see his right-footed effort crash off the bar and bounce to safety.
28' GOAL! Newcastle 1-2 Liverpool (Salah)
The Reds ride the storm and are back in front through Salah. Alexander-Arnold whips a low cross into the middle from the right flank.
Salah pulls off his man and guides a right-footed effort beyon the reach of Dubravka into the bottom corner. A precise finish from the forward to calm the Liverpool nerves.
70' Salah forced off on stretcher
A worrying moment for Liverpool as Dubravka wipes out Salah when leaving his line to punch a cross clear from the box. The forward stays down and requires treatment on the pitch.
A huge concern for Liverpool as Salah is stretchered from the field. Hopefully it's not too serious. Origi replaces the forward.
86' GOAL! Newcastle 2-3 Liverpool (Origi)
What a moment in the title race this could be as Origi heads home the free-kick. It is Shaqiri that delivers the ball into the box and he whips his cross towards the near post.
Origi rises with Lascelles, guiding the ball over Dubravka into the net. It may have deflected off the Newcastle defender last, but the Belgian and his team-mates will not care. The Reds score a huge goal.

I know many people would never like Salah. . But when someone is injured, you don't make fun of that. Things like that can be life threatening or can end your career. No one deserves hate. We as Football fans should be bigger than that. Hope Salah is well! 🙏

Liverpool worked hard but were lucky. Assuming Alexander Arnold were sent off. Newcastle didn't have possession but had 7 shots on target while Liverpool had 4 only. But it also means Liverpool have what Newcastle don't have. It makes the league atmosphere very, very tense and interesting going to the last day. The Liverpool is very, very cruel. You lose only one game in the entire season and you're not good enough to win the title...somebody who lost up to four times is still better than you. Which manager is good enough to help the Reds get their first EPL trophy? Which set of players are good enough to win it for Liverpool? How much money Liverpool need to spend to win the league? The most lucky manager and the luckiest set of players would do it one day, someday for Liverpool. How long it will take only the gods can tell. For this season, poor Liverpool won't win it, despite having dragged it to the wire. I how cruel art thou, EPL.

Sad for Salah wishing him a quick recovery soon. But Seeing Liverpool on top of the table is doubtful. it's just like seeing an Elephant on top of a tree, you don't know how it got there but eventually you know it will fall 🙄

My prayer go to Mo Salah! I hope he will recover coz we need to face Messi next Wednesday and his presence in the match will be a great boost. WE PLAYING HOME.WE CAN OVERTUN THE TIE. EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE IN FOOTBALL. IF BARÇA COULD OVERTURN 4 GOALS DEFICIT LAST YEAR AGAINST PSG BY WINNING 6-1, WE CAN DO THE SAME. LET'S GO LIVERPOOL. GO! GO!

Man City will win the league.because Liverpool had 9 points advantage and blew their chance. It reminds me of the year Arsenal had 10 points advantage over man utd but blew it when Eduardo da Silva suffered a serious injury. What u can describe klopp Liverpool is a term called nearly, but nearly doesn't kill a bed .
