Newcastle have rejected a formal offer from Liverpool for wantaway star striker Alexander Isak, according to a Romano.
The Reds had previously made an informal approach for the 25-year-old, who did not join his Magpies team-mates on their tour of Asia and has been training at his former club, Real Sociedad.
Liverpool expressed an interest to do a deal in the region of £120million but according to The Athletic, the Premier League champions have now seen an official bid turned down.
The outlet claim that Newcastle have tried to persuade the Swede to sign a new contract that would have included a release clause for next summer and encouraged him to stay 'through senior team-mates'.
However, this has proved unsuccessful in changing Isak's desire to leave St James' Park.

If they can pay more than 120m for Wirtz, paying more than 150m for Isak shouldn't be a problem. This is why many clubs are careful with how much they acquire players so as not to give the impression to other clubs that they may want to buy players from. The same thing happens with the salary cap, if one player in a team is given a salary far above his teammates, there will also be requests from the teammates for a salary increment.
