Newcastle slap mammoth price tag on Isak to ward off interest from Arsenal

Newcastle will demand at least £150million for Alexander Isak as they look to fend off interested parties.

They signed the Swede back in 2022, capturing him when he was a highly-rated prospect at Real Sociedad, and he's continued to blossom at St James' Park. Several major outfits have kept tabs on the striker with Arsenal among those keen.

Newcastle though want to retain their star man and will ask for a fee that would eclipse the British transfer record if he is to leave for another club. Chelsea were keen in the past but they baulked when the Magpies made it clear how much they wanted for Isak.

He has more than three years left on his deal, putting Newcastle in a strong position. Sources have stressed to the Telegraph that they are “relaxed” about the situation and “have no interest in selling” while the player has repeatedly said he is happy on Tyneside.

If Liverpool should fail to agree a new contract with Mohamed Salah they could look at Isak as his replacement whilst PSG are the latest club to throw their hat in the ring. Arsenal have long been linked with an interest in Isak, who has scored 42 goals in 68 Premier League outing, as they seek more firepower.

Newcastle have, so far, been able to keep their top players since their Saudi owners came on board. They've added the likes of Isak, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimarães. All have admirers, but the Magpies have yet to lose one of their star men as they continue to pursue their ambitions.

Eddie Howe has talked up his striker, insisting he has huge room for growth with many tipping him to become one of the world's elite forwards with time very much on his side.

The Newcastle boss said: “There is a lot more to come from him. Our job is to help him deliver that. Of course the main responsibility is for Alex to keep his focus, ignore the plaudits and keep helping the team not be selfish. It is about Newcastle and he plays his part.

“He is what you see on the pitch. He doesn’t get overly emotional which for a striker is a great quality because that coolness you see and calmness in front of goals is part of his personality, part of what he is. He seems to have an extra half a second when other players don’t. With Alex the beauty of his attitude is that he wants to improve. We give him information and he is responsive."
