Newcastle are desperate to add some new firepower to their attack this summer, but they have struggled in the transfer market having seen eight different bids for strikers rejected
Newcastle's search for a new striker continues to drag on, with the Magpies already seeing eight bids for five different players rejected so far this summer. Newcastle are in desperate need of extra firepower, with Alexander Isak pushing for a move to Liverpool.
Isak is currently training alone as he attempts to force through the transfer before the window closes, while Callum Wilson's move to West Ham on a free transfer has seen winger Anthony Gordon deputise as a striker in Newcastle's first two Premier League games.
Newcastle are still pushing to sign a goalscorer and are preparing a third bid for Jorgen Strand Larsen. Wolves have already rejected two offers for the Norway international, who netted 14 Premier League goals last season.
According to the Times, Newcastle have also failed with two bids for Yoane Wissa, two for Joao Pedro and one for Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko respectively. Pedro ended up making a £55million move to Chelsea, while Ekitike joined Liverpool and Sesko signed for Manchester United.
"It seems like the striker market gets tighter every year," Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted earlier this month. "Maybe that's because we have continued to grow as a team.
"There's not many players of that calibre to make us better and when they're potentially available the price seems to go up, and then you are dealt other challenges like PSR, how much you spend in the window, the long-term effects if you do the transfer.
"It is not as clear as going out and getting any player. They have got to fit the team, make us better and be affordable. That's not a large group of players."
Liverpool are ready to make a late move for Isak if they receive any encouragement from Newcastle over the transfer and that may come if the Magpies can finally secure some replacements.
And Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has admitted that there is a chance Strand Larsen could leave. When asked about the striker's future, Pereira replied: "I don't know, I'm not the owner. Until now, Jorgen is our player, we'll see what happens.
" Football is football and every player has a price, even (Lionel) Messi or Cristiano (Ronaldo). We'll see what happens."
