Ngumoha: I’ll claim the goal; the coach wants me to play my own style

After scoring the only goal in a 1-0 pre-season friendly victory over Wrexham, Liverpool winger Ngumoha spoke to the club's official website.

On his goal and whether he claimed it:

I don’t know; it was a bit messy. But if you don’t shoot, you don’t score! So, of course, I’ll take it.

On his feelings about pre-season:

It feels good. All my teammates treat me like a professional. Obviously, I’m still young and still learning, but all the players have been great. It’s been a good experience.

On the playing time he has received:

We'll learn the arrangements in the meeting before the game; that's when they will be revealed. Everything is full of surprises. We just work hard in training. The overall feeling is very good.

On how the goal came about:

Dom (Szoboszlai) got the ball, I made a run and obviously slipped a bit. I tried to drive forward and then saw a shooting opportunity. I took the shot and it went in. Ultimately, any bit of space you can find in the box, the key is to take it.

On whether this is a very important pre-season for him and whether his goals have increased:

Of course. Since the end of last season, I’ve wanted to play and get as many starts as possible. These games are a great opportunity to show the manager what I can do, because it’s a new start for everyone. It’s very important and very positive.

On Iraola's personal demands of him:

Pressing. We like to press high, so we go all out for any tackle we can win. Then, in possession, when I get a one-on-one opportunity, I try to be brave and break through. If I can't break through, then I drop back and stay involved in the game. And, of course, I aim for goals and assists.

On whether anyone told him to "just play your normal game":

All the coaching staff told me to play my own style, whether that’s cutting inside or staying wide. I’ve also been working on these things in training, practising on both the right and left wings. The most important thing is to stay unpredictable.
