Match Report
Two goals from Samuel Chukwueze and William Troost-Ekong handed the Super Eagles the win, while Bongani Zungu netted Bafana's consolation goal.
Bafana failed to clear away the Germany-based full-back's low cross and Chukwueze pounced and beat South Africa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams from close range to make 1-0 to Nigeria.
Bongani Zungu scored with a header from Percy Tau's free-kick with lanky midfielder netting his scored goal of the tournament, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Match referee Rédouane Jiyed then consulted with Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and the goal was given to South Africa to make it 1-1 with 19 minutes left on the clock.
However, Bafana lost concentration in the closing stages of the game and they were punished by William Troost-Ekong.
An unmarked Troost-Ekong fired home from second half substitute Moses Simon's corner-kick in the 89th minute to seal Nigeria's 2-1 victory over South Africa.
The Super Eagles will now take on the winner between Algeria and Ivory Coast in a semi-final clash on Sunday, while Bafana bowed out of the tournament.

Seems strange how the officials in this Afcon encourage diving. That may not do good for African football when they're competing globally. When there was no var during the qualifiers the officials made errors and cancelled two Nigerian goals against bafana. Now with bar they make another controversial decision awarding that goal to bafana. They really need to understand the rules first before using var instead of bending the rules depending on the team or result they want. What an admirable bafana team. They've really improved in their game. They're true competitors. Congratulations to the Super Eagles of Nigeria! They really need to change that Akpeyi though. Dude doesn't even know his territory. Thank God our team play is improving. Even though we don't get much of the ball, we're decisive when we get it Christ be Praised for this victory!

Though Nigeria has won the match but to be honest j Akpeyi is not a keeper at all. Imagine his positioning when that was scored, for it was a goal because the ball bounced at the back of a Nigerian player before getting to the scorer which was zungu if not it would have been an offside, so the referee was on point.. Congratulations to the super eagles anyway, but bafana bafana played a better game, good luck next time out south Africans..

I dont think that banana goal was offside cos the last person that touched the ball before it went to the scorer who was adjudged to be offside is a Nigetisn defender,I mean its l like a back pass,if you made a back pass without being aware someone was offside behind you and he got it,its not offside based on who touch the ball last.

AFCON VAR is something else. The referee is not allowed to watch the reply on the screen, instead they communicate to them via earpiece. Maybe we should call it EAR (Earpiece Assistant referee)

I am not even African and I know almost nothing about football there, but Nigeria has always been my favourite. If Brazil and Nigeria could play in the European competitions, it would be a dream come true.
