Leeds United striker Sam Greenwood has revealed that his side believe they can beat Manchester City when Pep Guardiola's side travel to Elland Road next week.
More than a month has passed since Ivan Toney's stoppage-time winner saw City head into the World Cup break with a shock 2-1 home defeat to Brentford. The Blues will be desperate to hit the ground running when they return to Premier League action on December 28.
Guardiola's side find themselves five points behind league leaders Arsenal, with the Catalan's former protégé Mikel Arteta leading a football revival in north London that has seen them set the pace so far this season. Although a mouth-watering Carabao Cup tie with Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium will be first on the agenda, the game plan to win against Leeds would have already been in motion for weeks.
Goals from Nathan Ake, Rodri, Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus saw City walk away 4-0 winners the last time the two sides met back in April. Yet Guardiola will be reminding his side that despite their opponents sitting 15th in the league with just four wins this term - they will have their work cut out in what will no doubt be a hostile atmosphere.
Greenwood has now explained that it is their home advantage that could give Leeds the edge, as he revealed that the squad will go into the match with believing they can beat the reigning champions.
He said: "Anytime is for me, if we all believe we can win. For me they are the best team in the world. If you go out there with no fear and you get Elland Road on your side, we’ve proved we can play against the top teams. We've got a lot of results against them."
"So, for me, we just need to go out there and show a desire and determination and believe that we can get the three points."
