No titles in 2 Years, end of tax breaks, Al Nassr halts Ronaldo contract renewal

On May 16,  Argentine media outlet TyC Sports reported that contract renewal talks between Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr have been suspended.

According to the report, the 40-year-old Ronaldo has failed to help Al Nassr win any major trophies since joining the club in January 2023. Moreover, the team’s performance this season has not met expectations, and the club’s management is reportedly disappointed with Ronaldo’s contributions.

TyC Sports states that after losses in the Saudi Super Cup, the King’s Cup, and the AFC Champions League Elite competition, and with the team also out of contention for the league title, Al Nassr’s management has started to question Ronaldo’s future with the club. Now, with just 45 days remaining on his contract, they have decided to suspend renewal negotiations.

The Argentine outlet further claims that Ronaldo has now lived in Saudi Arabia for over two years, meaning he will lose eligibility for certain tax breaks—a factor that may be a key reason for the stalled contract talks.
