Arsenal are in talks to sign Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard.
The 31-year-old is one of a number of midfield options the club are looking at amid Thomas Partey's expiring contract.
Partey has been offered new terms by Arsenal, but nothing has been agreed and his current deal expires in five days.
Mikel Arteta's side are yet to make a signing this summer, but goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected in London this week to put the final touches to a £5m switch from Chelsea to the Gunners.

I prefer Partey in all scenarios, but I think Nogaard is really to replace Jorghino while Zubimendi is in for Partey. I will get over it once he doesn't play for any club in England when he leaves us.

Most fans are missing the point. I’m not a fan of Norgaard but the idea is squad depth. Norgaard signing is actually to replace Jorginho as a squad depth player, not a regular and no big player will want to move to stay on the bench. Yes he is 31 but Jorginho was over 32 years. Zubimendi was the signing to replay Partey. Zubi is 26 years and 5 years younger plus less injured. Arsenal won’t have gone for Norgaard but Partey didn’t accept to be a part player for Zubimendi plus Arsenal gave him 1 year extension given to players who are 30+ especially with those with injury history.

It is an interesting move to consider though, as having already seen Jorginho depart, there is uncertainty over the future of Thomas Partey whose contract will expire in less than a week. Recent reporting suggests the renewal which many expected has not developed, with some suggestions the wage demands of the 32 year old are an issue for the club. Arsenal will soon announce the signing of Martin Zubimendi, a player clearly brought in to replace the Ghanaian international in the starting XI, and should Partey leave there would be a need to replace him in the squad. Norgaard has plenty of Premier League experience with almost 200 Brentford appearances, and we know that’s something Mikel Arteta values highly, and his physicality is something the Gunners boss would definitely appreciate (when it’s not being applied to scything challenges on Gabriel Martinelli)

It would be a good addition for Arsenal. Partey wants the same salary he’s on £220k. This would be an ideal back up for Zubamendi, plus he was outstanding last season.Also not injury prone.
