Norway 1-2 Portugal: Felix & Ramos seize away victory as Nyland makes huge turnover

Orjan Nyland's second-half error proved costly as Goncalo Ramos helped Portugal to back-to-back victories in the Nations League after a 2-1 triumph against Norway. 

Nyland gifted possession to Ramos, who lofted in the winning goal, with that error coming just three minutes after Erling Haaland had hauled Stale Solbakken's side level. 

Joao Felix laid the foundations for the visitors' win in the first half, with Jorge Jesus' strong start to his Portugal tenure seeing his team go top of the Group A4 table. 

Both sides started brightly at Ullevaal Stadion, with Joao Neves heading over before Haaland's first-time effort was brilliantly kept out by Diogo Costa at his near post.

However, it was Jorge Jesus' side who took the lead in the 17th minute through Joao Felix, who placed a fine finish from the edge of the penalty area past the dive of Nyland and into the bottom-left corner following Pedro Neto's cutback. 

Norway cranked up the pressure at the end of the first half, with Haaland's towering header thwarted by Costa once again, with the Manchester City forward then nodding into the grateful arms of the Portugal goalkeeper in first-half stoppage time. 

Haaland, however, was not to be denied his customary goal. Martin Odegaard's free-kick was spilled by Costa, with Patrick Berg nodding the rebound across the six-yard box for the Norway number nine to tuck home the leveller six minutes after the restart. 

But no sooner had they got themselves level, Norway fell behind again. A calamitous error from Nyland saw his pass picked off by Ramos, who took a touch before lofting the ball over the retreating goalkeeper and into the net. 

Rafael Leao nearly made an instant impact off the bench, but his shot deflected off Fredrik Aursnes and onto the crossbar, before VAR saved Nyland from further embarrassment. 

A long ball forward from Costa caught Norway napping and Ramos was able to steal in front of Nyland before finishing, but the goal was ruled out for an offside against him. 

The hosts controlled the final 15 minutes, with Andreas Schjelderup forcing Costa into action, but Portugal's defence held firm to make it two wins from two to begin their Nations League title defence.

No Ronaldo? No problem for Portugal

Jesus elected to make four changes to the side that battled their way past Wales on his Portugal bow, with Cristiano Ronaldo, whose seven shots without scoring against Craig Bellamy's side was his most in a game for his country since October 2025, one of those alterations. 

But despite a change in personnel, it was one of the starters against Wales in Joao Felix who shone once more. He has now scored six goals across his last 11 starts for Portugal, with his former Al-Nassr boss Jesus getting the best out of him. 

The defending Nations League champions were put through their paces by Norway, who were led by Haaland once again. The in-form striker has now scored in 11 of his last 14 competitive games for Norway and City combined (17 goals in total), and in each of his last six (10 goals).

However, a lapse in concentration from Nyland proved costly, with Norway pushing for an equaliser in the closing stages but unable to find a way past Costa, who made five important saves to preserve his team's victory. 

Solbakken will feel his team had done enough to take at least a point from the contest. Norway finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 2.72 from their 22 shots, with 1.69 of that tally coming from Haaland, while Portugal mustered an xG of 1.03 from their 12 attempts.
