Nottingham Forest have launched a £2million bid to hijack Cardiff City's move for Sam Surridge.
The Stoke City forward was heading to Wales this morning ready to sign for Steve Morison at Cardiff.
However, Forest contacted Stoke to see if they could strike a deal instead and he is now closing on a move to the City Ground where he will link up once again with manager Steve Cooper.
Surridge, 23, played under Cooper during a loan spell at Swansea in 2019-20, scoring four goals in 20 appearances.
Forest tried to sign Surridge previously when he left first club Bournemouth and they have moved again after Lewis Grabban picked up an ankle injury in the 2-1 defeat to Cardiff last night.
Forest are also closing on a deal for Dijon defender Jonathan Panzo. The former Chelsea trainee, 21, is expected to undergo a medical shortly.
Cardiff, meanwhile, are selling Kieffer Moore to Bournemouth in a deal worth around £5million and though they have added Jordan Hugill on loan wanted another option.
Bournemouth have also completed the signing of Liverpool's Nat Phillips on loan and are working to complete a loan for Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell.
Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has also signed with Peterborough winger Siriki Dembele expected to follow.
