Nottingham Forest and England star Elliot Anderson has caught the eye of Manchester United and Newcastle and the Midlands side have now shared their stance on a sale

Nottingham Forest are understood to have categorically ruled out selling Elliot Anderson in the January transfer window amid interest from Manchester United in the England midfielder.

Anderson, 23, has been installed as one of the Red Devils’ prime targets as Ruben Amorim plots a complete overhaul of his midfield. A £100m price tag has been touted for the player, albeit it remains to be seen whether United would be able to stump up such a fee. And it has now emerged that Forest have no intention of sanctioning a mid-season sale with the January transfer window opening in a matter of weeks.

According to The Telegraph, Forest will NOT be tempted into selling Anderson in the winter window as they attempt to turn their season around under their new head coach, Sean Dyche. They are anticipating interest next summer, though, with United and Anderson’s former club Newcastle known to be among those keen on signing him.

Anderson, who signed for £15m from Newcastle last summer, penned a five-year contract at the City Ground. The report goes on to suggest that there is no buy-back or sell-on clause written into Forest’s agreement with Newcastle.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis will set the club’s valuation of their star midfielder, which could rise over £100m. Speaking about Anderson recently, Newcastle icon Alan Shearer said: "It [Anderson’s exit from Newcastle was the best thing. Although it was tough for Newcastle and it wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for PSR.

"But it was the best thing that happened to him, to get out and play. He wasn't going to get in Newcastle's midfield. You've got to give him credit. He wouldn't be far away now [from getting in Newcastle's midfield], I agree with that.

"He wouldn't have been able to do what he has done and is doing at Newcastle. Good for him. I'm delighted for him. He's gone from being a bit-part player at Newcastle to being one of the main guys at Forest and one of England's."

Meanwhile, England boss Thomas Tuchel recently hailed Anderson as one of the most effective midfield players in the Premier League. He said: "Anderson is a key player for us at the moment. He is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League - that's why he is with us and starting for us.

"He deserves it because he has been nothing but impressive. He has to keep on going now though. He is a very complete and mobile midfielder, and that's what he keeps showing me."
