On July 6 – Arsenal officially announced the signing of Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi.

It is reported that the transfer fee for the Spanish international exceeds £65 million, marking a significant summer investment for the Gunners.

Zubimendi, 24, was a key figure for Real Sociedad last season, making 44 appearances in all competitions (41 starts). The combative midfielder, known for his defensive solidity and passing range, has been a mainstay in the Basque side's midfield since breaking into the first team in 2021.

Arsenal's move for Zubimendi comes after months of speculation, with the north London club fending off competition from La Liga and Premier League rivals. The transfer fee, if confirmed above £65 million, would set a new club record for a defensive midfielder, surpassing the £50 million spent on Thomas Partey in 2020.

The Spain international is expected to bolster Mikel Arteta's midfield options, providing cover and competition for Declan Rice and Kai Havertz. Zubimendi's contract with Arsenal is reportedly set to run until 2030, with the club holding an option for a further year.
