Julián Álvarez’s transfer to FC Barcelona will not be negotiated as unanimous support from the Board of Directors for the club's strategy
OFFICIAL STATEMENT:
The members of the Board of Directors of Atlético de Madrid have unanimously expressed their full support for the club's decision not to negotiate the transfer of Julián Alvarez to Fútbol Club Barcelona.
The members of the Board of Directors are aware that "Atlético de Madrid is open to the standard negotiations of the transfer market, but always in an ethical and professional manner and with respect between clubs. We fully support the position previously communicated by the club that Futbol Club Barcelona has not complied with these requirements, and consequently there has been and will be no negotiation with them regarding the transfer of Julián Alvarez".
Atlético de Madrid is convinced that our player will understand this decision, and will focus on working to the best of his ability to help the club achieve its objectives, just as he has done over the two seasons he has been representing our colours.

I am a Barca fan and I fully understand the situation. Alvarez has a contract with Atletico till 2030. Alvarez himself signed the contract. So Atletico is not forcing him to stay, they are just respecting the contract. The real disrespect here is being done by Alvarez & FC Barcelona. Atletico has every right to keep the player. If Atletico wants to sell the player now, they can demand even €500 million & they have every right to do so. The real thing is Barca is causing so much turbulence in this situation even when they know that Alvarez is contracted with Atletico. Barca is trying to gain sympathy for Alvarez and themselves. If Atletico doesn't want to sell Barca should not intervene and if Barca wants Alvarez so desperately they must pay the release clause. As simple as that.

The reaction of some fans to this is just another prove that many don't understand football, let alone understand the business side. A footballer has the right to make a transfer request and this will is only necessary when the player is still under a valid contract with his current club. In the same way, the club has the right to accept or deny. Also, there'd definitely be a destination club where the player wishes to go and it's a poor sense of judgement to paint the desired club as wrong/bad. Since Atletico has refused to negotiate with Barca, the latter will seek other targets while the former is left to deal with the situation of an unhappy footballer in their ranks.

To all of you speaking that he get sense are more dumber than him that mumu that call himself Barcelona fans and still disrespect Barcelona at the same time. Alvarez has the right to go anytime according to the contract he signed with Athletico, everything happening now had been promised to him before he signed that contract. Athletico are just acting childish and everyone knows it, they used the right they gave him against just because he has no evidence. Do you think Alvarez is that fool enough to go public that he wants to leave without having informing anyone in the club and within the players?? Was Barcelona the one that told him to go public, when Simone admitted that he and Alvarez discussed everything before he went public. Stop insulting Barcelona badge on what you don't know about Mumu.

FiFA should amend rules, if player sign a contract, they must honour it till contract ends. Otherwise why is it call a contract?
You don't even understand anything. If it was done that way then clubs will loss one of their sources of revenue, which is transfer fees. Many small clubs make most of their income via transfer.
