Bayern Munich have confirmed that Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will not travel with the rest of the squad as they prepare to face Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday evening.
Bayern:
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will not travel to Manchester for FC Bayern vs Man City. The forward is unavailable due to a knee problem.
The 34-year-old has been ruled out of the tie having come off complaining of an issue with his knee after 64 minutes of the DFB Pokal quarter-final against Freiburg last Tuesday.
Choupo-Moting was then left out of the squad that played Freiburg again in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Thomas Tuchel has since confirmed that the former Stoke City striker will again be left home for the first leg of the Champions League tie against Pep Guardiola's side.
Choupo-Moting is Bayern's top scorer this season in all three of the league, German cup and Champions League with 17 goals from 28 appearances this campaign.
Bayern are faced with a crisis in their striking department as Choupo-Moting was the only available senior centre-forward within the squad.
He had originally been brought in as an understudy to Robert Lewandowski but has shone since the Polish striker's departure to Barcelona at the end of the 2021-22 season.
Since Lewandowski left for Barca in the summer, Bayern have brought in 17-year-old striker Mathys Tel from Rennes for £25 million (€28.5m) who is also currently nursing an injury.
With no other recognised centre-forward options available, Choupo-Moting has been handed a starting role in the majority of Bayern's games this season.
Choupo-Moting has registered 10 goals from 18 games in the Bundesliga, four from six in the Champions league and a further three from four outings in the DFB Pokal.
His most recent strike came in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain helping Bayern on their way to a 2-0 victory on the night and a 3-0 aggregate win.
Former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry deputised up front in Choupo-Moting's absence in the most recent game against Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

I have the feeling of City winning the Champion League (because of their tactics and clinical in score line).
