Christian Eriksen has joined Wolfsburg following his departure from Manchester United in June.
The Dane spent three seasons at United before leaving the club following the expiration of his contract, and has now signed a two-year contract with Wolfsburg.
Wrexham had reportedly made an approach for Eriksen during the transfer window, though his agent confirmed the move would not happen.
"VfL Wolfsburg is my first club in the Bundesliga – I'm really looking forward to this new adventure," said Eriksen.
"I'm convinced we can achieve something together at Wolfsburg. The talks with the club bosses went very well. I immediately sensed that [head coach] Paul Simonis has a clear vision for the team and for me personally.
"The fact that there are several familiar faces in the squad from the Danish national team makes VfL a particularly attractive proposition for me."
Club Statement:
VfL Wolfsburg have signed 33-year-old Denmark international Christian Eriksen, who had been without a club since leaving Manchester United in the summer. The central midfielder has signed a contract until 2027 and will wear the number 24 shirt.
“He has seen and experienced everything”
“We’re really pleased that this opportunity has arisen for us at short notice,” said VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz. “In Christian Eriksen, we’re getting a player who has seen and experienced everything at the highest level. His enormous experience, his quality on the pitch and his personality will be a valuable boost to our young players in particular. We’ve deliberately made structural changes this summer and signed several talented youngsters with great potential. Christian will complement our experienced captain, Max Arnold, perfectly. He’s a true leader who can make a difference on and off the pitch.”
Three World Cups, three European Championships
Standing at 1.82m tall, Eriksen has left an indelible mark on the international stage in a career spanning well over a decade. With 144 international caps to his name – not to mention 46 goals – Eriksen is Denmark’s record appearance holder and has featured at three FIFA World Cups as well as three UEFA European Championships. He suffered a cardiac arrest in his team’s opening EURO 2020 game against Finland, but he made a remarkable recovery and has continued to represent the national side on a regular basis.
Over 300 Premier League appearances
Eriksen has vast experience at club level too, making 310 appearances in the English Premier League (registering 55 goals and 81 assists), 43 in Italy’s Serie A and 53 in the UEFA Champions League. After joining Dutch side Ajax as a youngster in 2009/10, he spent a large part of his career at Tottenham Hotspur between 2013 and 2020 before spells at Inter Milan, Brentford and Manchester United.
Numerous honours
Eriksen’s silverware collection includes three Dutch titles with Ajax (2011, 2012 and 2013), a Serie A crown with Inter (2011) as well as an English League Cup (2023) and an FA Cup (2024) with Manchester United. He has also been voted Denmark’s Footballer of the Year on several occasions.

I remember watching the game when Erickson scored a hut trick with Spurs, probably the only one in his career. All the best in your new chapter
