Davide Zappacosta has signed a one-year extension to his contract at Chelsea and moved to Roma on loan until the end of January.
Zappacosta's 12-month extension takes his contract at Chelsea through to June 2022.
Zappacosta joins the Giallorossi from Chelsea on an initial six-month loan which runs until January 2020.
As part of the deal, there is the option to extend the loan until 30 June 2020.
“I am pleased to join Roma, after an experience overseas that helped me progress as both a player and a person,” Zappacosta said.
“Being able to play for a great club like this is a huge motivation – I cannot wait to start training alongside my new teammates.”
Zappacosta moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2017 from Torino – going on to win the FA Cup and Europa League in his two seasons with the Premier League side.
“I’m pleased to be able to have Davide on my team once again,” said club sporting director Gianluca Petrachi, who worked with Zappacosta at Torino.
“Compared with the player that I knew at Torino, now Roma are getting a player who has matured both as a player and a person after a valuable spell in another league.
“I am certain that Davide will be able to make an important contribution during the course of the season.”
Zappacosta will wear the No. 2 shirt at Roma.

No player comes to Chelsea and leave empty handed. U signs for Chelsea and eventually leave without winning a trophy. The DNA of champions is in the team. Thanks to Abramovic.

I don't think Chelsea still need to be loaning out senior players out at this time despite injury challenges to some key players couple with inability to make a serious signing during the transfer window

The situation at Chelsea is getting from worse to worst day in day out. How can they loan matured players leaving babies at such a big club. I wish FIFA had imposed a five year ban so that they regret their actions.
