OFFICIAL: Dortmund's coach Niko Kovac extends contract until 2027

Dortmund announce that the coach Niko Kovac extends his contract until 2027.

Club statement: 

Borussia Dortmund and Niko Kovac (53) are moving forward together. The head coach has extended his contract with the eight-time German champions until June 30, 2027.

Kovac and his coaching team took over BVB last winter when they were eleventh in the league table and, with a brilliant final spurt, led the club to qualification for the UEFA Champions League again.

"Niko has dedicated himself wholeheartedly to his role at BVB. He is a football expert with clear principles, fundamentally honest, straightforward in his communication, and rewards performance. Under his disciplined leadership, we have returned to winning ways, stabilized our defensive work, scored significantly more goals than before, and played attractive football again. The negotiations were very fair, respectful, and solution-oriented from the outset. This mutual trust is the basis of our collaboration," says Lars Ricken, Borussia Dortmund's Sporting Director.

BVB Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl emphasizes: "We are very happy about the contract extension for Niko and his coaching team. This clarity is important for everyone to fully focus on the season and the challenges ahead. We strive for maximum success and want to approach every game with conviction, intensity, and passion. Niko and his team enforce these values every day, and we believe that together we will continue the successful path of last season's final spurt."
