On 26 January, Paris Saint-Germain officially announced the signing of 18-year-old Spanish midfielder Dro Fernández.
Official Statement
Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the signing of Dro Fernández. The 18-year-old Spanish midfielder, who will wear the number 27, has signed a contract that will keep him in the French capital until 2030, in a move that is fully in line with the club’s sporting strategy, which is heavily focused on youth and talent.
Born in Nigrán, Spain, on 12th January 2008, Pedro Fernández Sarmiento – nicknamed “Dro” – began his footballing career with his hometown team, ED Val Miñor Nigrán, at the age of four. Then, in 2022, he joined FC Barcelona, where the versatile midfielder would continue his development over the course of three seasons and quickly establish himself thanks to his technical quality, his vision and his ability to play between the lines.
During the 2024–2025 season, despite being aged just 16, Fernández was promoted to Barça’s U19 men’s team and became one of the key architects behind his side’s UEFA Youth League triumph by contributing his creativity, his accuracy in the final third and his ability to play forwards. He would make a total of seven appearances in the competition, scoring two goals in the process – including one in a 4-2 win over BSC Young Boys – whilst also playing a part in the Catalan club’s División de Honor Juvenil and Copa del Rey Juvenil double last year.
Fernández shone particularly brightly during Barça’s subsequent summer tour of Japan and South Korea, where his technical proficiency and his adaptability at the highest level were confirmed, as he scored his first goal for the Blaugrana’s senior team against Vissel Kobe on 27th July 2025. Then, in September, he made his competitive debut as a professional in a 2-1 win over Real Sociedad, which would be the first of his five official appearances for the side. On top of his four matches in La Liga, he also featured once in the UEFA Champions League, notching up his first professional assist in a 6-1 win over Olympiacos FC on 21st October 2025.
Internationally, “Dro” has regularly been called up to his country’s youth teams. With Spain’s U17s, he registered four goals in nine games and was especially illustrious during their 2025 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifying campaign, during which he made three appearances and scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Norway in March last year. Since being promoted to La Roja’s U18s, he has earned three caps, with the most recent one coming against Romania on 14th October and thereby adding to his total of 24 international caps across all youth categories (U15, U16, U17 and U18).

Enrique will do magic with this boy if everything goes right
He can’t see game time over there too, though might be different than Barca because we have plenty good players playing in his position. I wish him best of luck
