OFFICIAL: Egypt fined $5000 for not fulfilling obligations in the mixed zone

CAF officially announced that the Egyptian team has been fined $5,000 for failing to fulfill its mandatory media obligations in the mixed zone.

The Confederation of African Football has fined the Egyptian team $5,000 for their match against the Zimbabwean team in the first round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. 

CAF has confirmed that the reason for this penalty is that the players and coaching staff of the Egyptian team failed to fulfill their mandatory media obligations in the mixed zone after the final whistle. According to CAF's notice, the entire Egyptian delegation walked straight through the journalists' area without stopping to answer post-match questions, an act that clearly violated the tournament's media regulations.

In addition to the fine, CAF has also issued a stern warning to the seven-time African champions, emphasizing that if such situations occur again, more severe penalties will be imposed. The governing body specifically cautioned that if the Egyptian team still refuses to cooperate with media interviews after the second-round match against South Africa, it does not rule out the possibility of taking harsher measures in the future. 

CAF has always emphasized that media interview rights are a core component of the event regulations, and post-match interviews and interactions in the mixed zone are crucial for enhancing the transparency of the event, increasing fan engagement, and shaping the overall image of African football.
