Eric Dier will leave Bayern at the end of the season following the expiration of his contract, as confirmed by sporting director Christoph Freund at Friday’s press conference before facing RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga: “We had discussions with Eric about a new contract. He told us that he doesn't want to extend and will leave us. He's a great guy. We had a great time together. Hopefully he crowns his time with us with his first title.”
Dier, 31, originally joined Bayern in January 2024 on loan from English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. His move became a permanent deal the following summer. The England international defender has so far played 45 times for Bayern, scoring two goals. Dier is on the verge of winning the first major trophy of his career in the remainder of this Bundesliga season in Munich.

Before anyone criticize Dier for wanting to move to AS Monaco which is obviously lower in pedigree compared to Bayern Munich, be reminded that the French club is offering him a potential 4-year deal as against Bayern who most likely only wants to offer him a yearly renewal or a maximum of 2-year deal based on performance. With Monaco's deal, he has certainty of earnings for at least 3 years even if he gets injured or doesn't perform well. He won't get this opportunity with Bayern's extension. He has to look out for himself, just as everyone will do. His move makes perfect sense to me.
