Sheffield United have secured the signature of proven Premier League and Championship goalscorer, Danny Ings. ✍️
United have added further competition in attack after securing the signature of a proven Premier League and Championship goalscorer, who has also been capped by England.
Danny Ings becomes a Blade after a short period training with the club, with the former Liverpool and Southampton ace signing a one-year deal with the option to extend.
Ings arrives at Bramall Lane after departing West Ham United at the end of last season, joining the club after spending over a decade plying his trade at the top level of English football.
On signing for the Blades, Ings commented: "I am delighted. It has been a busy few days. When I spoke to the manager and he asked me to come up and spend some time with him and the group, I just thought it was a great opportunity. To be sat here now speaking to you, and the Sheffield United fans, is just fantastic.
"As soon as I spoke to the manager, I wanted to get up here and sit down face-to-face and meet everybody here. To be sat here now, and signed, it is really exciting.
"I've been keeping myself fit and I've just been waiting for the right opportunity. I thought this was a great one for me and a chance to progress my career as well."
Born in Winchester, Ings started his career at Southampton before being released as a schoolboy and subsequently progressed through the youth ranks and into the first team picture at Bournemouth, whilst also enjoying a successful loan spell with Dorchester Town.
A move from Dean Court to Burnley followed, seeing him reunited with former Cherries boss Eddie Howe in August 2011.
During the 2013-14 season, his career ignited, scoring 22 goals to be named Championship Player of the Year as the Clarets finished second to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League, with the striker going on to score 11 times during his first taste of top-flight football.
Following Burnley's relegation, Ings earned a move to Liverpool where he gained experience of playing in the Europa League and also claimed the honour of scoring in a Merseyside derby. He made a bright start to life at Anfield, with his form earning him a first senior England cap off the bench as England beat Lithuania 3-0 in a European Championship qualifier.
Injury would eventually disrupt his progress and with the Reds adding to their attacking options, he returned to Southampton to seek regular game time. At St Mary's, Ings rediscovered some of his best form, with a return of 25 goals in 42 appearances during the 2019-20 season particularly impressive.
His form earned him an England recall nearly five years after his first cap, as he starred in a Nations League win over Iceland. He played once more for the Three Lions a month later, scoring in a friendly win over Wales.
Another profitable campaign with the Saints followed, prompting Aston Villa to spend a reported £25 million to secure his services in August 2021 and his strike-rate during his two years in the Midlands remained impressive.
In January 2023, he joined West Ham where he has spent the past two-and-a-half years. Here he was an unused substitute in the final as the Hammers won the Europa Conference League in 2023.
